The struggling New York Yankees finally made a move to try to revert their current situation.
Losers of 12 of their last 15 games, they are reportedly calling up infield prospect Oswaldo Cabrera.
While Oswald Peraza (currently in Triple-A) and Anthony Volpe (currently in Double-A) are generally more highly regarded than Cabrera, the latter is a legitimate prospect in his own right and can make an impact on the 2022 Yankees.
“During the spring, this is actually the name I heard the most in terms of ‘major-league ready’ talent, which, honestly, was slightly surprising. Cabrera’s favorite player growing up was Marwin Gonzalez, and having him in the #Yankees organization has been great for him,” ESPN’s Marly Rivera tweeted.

A native of Venezuela, it’s not surprising that Cabrera followed Gonzalez’s career.
Cabrera Has Been Extremely Productive Since Early July
Life is full of surprises, and now Cabrera will take most of Gonzalez’s playing time.
With an overall line of .264/.343/.500, eight home runs and 10 stolen bases in 203 Triple-A plate appearances, Cabrera has a 122 wRC+ (league average is 100), so he has produced 22 percent more than the average.
However, it’s important to point out that he missed a few months with a shoulder impingement, and returned on July 4.
Since returning, Cabrera is slashing .340/.424/.651 with eight round-trippers, a 1.075 OPS and a 182 wRC+ in 126 plate appearances.
He has been a true beast recently, and earned his call-up.
He can play shortstop, second base, and third base, and could represent a power injection to a lineup that needs it badly.
The transition from Triple-A to the majors can be tough, but Cabrera has shown he has the tools to succeed.
Can the Yankees correctly guide him to stardom?
