With gambling on sports becoming legal in the majority of the states in this country recently, the NFL has seen an influx of players starting to make bets on games, which is obviously a significant problem.
After gambling on games in the NFL during the 2021 season, the league came down hard on talented wide receiver Calvin Ridley, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons.
The NFL decided to suspend Ridley for the entire 2022 season, which obviously jeopardized what was a promising career in the league.
The league made an example of Ridley, who has since been reinstated and is now with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a result of a trade with the Falcons.
Although Ridley’s suspension sent shockwaves throughout the NFL, it hasn’t stopped the problem of players betting on games, with Isaiah Rodgers of the Indianapolis Colts getting investigated for potential gambling violations via NFL on ESPN.

According to ESPN, Rodgers made hundreds of small bets through the name of an associate of his and could face a lengthy suspension for his involvement.
Two months ago, the league suspended five other NFL players for gambling violations, with four of those players being from the Detroit Lions and one from the Washington Commanders.
Despite Ridley going through a year-long suspension that derailed his career, the league hasn’t been able to deter players from gambling on games as of yet, which means this could become a common occurrence until the NFL figures out how to discipline players for their actions in this regard properly.
