The Atlanta Braves had been a bit inconsistent in September – at least in comparison to the lofty expectations attached to them – but that seems like a thing of the past now given their current, ongoing four-game winning streak.
The New York Mets lost their most recent game, but they are not really in a slump having won seven of their last ten.
Atlanta tied New York at the top of the NL East standings, but it’s not the first time that has happened in the second half.
And, additionally, the Mets remain the favorites to win the NL East division, at least according to FanGraphs’ odds.
“The Mets remain probabilistic favorites to win the NL East, per Fangraphs odds, though Atlanta’s chances have roughly tripled over the past week,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

The Mets And Braves Have Been Competing For Months
The two teams have been competing for the top spot in the East for months, and neither has fallen into a rut: their consistency is admirable.
Right now, both have a 97-58 record.
The Mets’ NL East odds are calculated at 63 percent, and they do have the easiest schedule.
The Braves, in turn, have a 37 percent chance of being crowned division champions.
The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals were never in the playoff push, and the Philadelphia Phillies were never really in the competition to win the division despite their seemingly imminent postseason berth via the Wild Card.
Winning the NL East is huge for both the Mets and the Braves, because the prize would be getting a first-round playoff bye.
The loser of the battle will enter play in the Wild Card round, sooner than anticipated.
It should be a fun week.
