The New York Mets had announced that closer Edwin Diaz, who missed the entire 2023 season with a torn patellar tendon after a freak accident at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, would make his first appearance in roughly a year on Monday.
Diaz proceeded to take over for starter Tylor Megill in the fifth inning of Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins in Port St. Lucie.
He made his return in spectacular fashion to the song that has helped him reach worldwide fame: “Narco,” by Blasterjaxx and Timmy Trumpet.
HE'S BAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK.
SOUND 'EM. 🎺🎺🎺 @SugarDiaz39 pic.twitter.com/8jiDf48Lt6

Diaz adopted the song as his entrance music a couple of seasons ago, and people at Citi Field loved it.
Even neutral fans concede that seeing Diaz enter to the sound of the trumpets is one of the most thrilling experiences in baseball right now.
The announcers said they got goosebumps at the scene, watching one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB return to that energizing song.
Diaz’s return was highly successful: even though the Mets lost 1-0, he pitched a clean inning with no hits and no walks.
Of course, true to form, he struck out three hitters.
Diaz is capable of big things in the back of the Mets bullpen.
In 2022, which was his last fully healthy season, he pitched 62 innings with a brilliant 1.31 ERA and a whopping 118 strikeouts.
It’s not the first time he has dominated to that extent, as he has a career 2.93 ERA.
With Diaz healthy and ready to go, the Mets’ slim playoff chances grow.
Scoring off him in the ninth inning is next to impossible.
