The New York Mets got bad news on Tuesday afternoon when it was announced that star shortstop Carlos Correa would in fact not be signing with them, but rather, the Minnesota Twins.
The deal is for six years and $200 million and includes vesting options that could bring the total up to $270 million.
But even without Correa in the fold, the Mets still have spent a ton of money and have the highest payroll in all of baseball.
According to USA Today’s top MLB insider Bob Nightengale, New York’s payroll sits at $298 million even after yet another agreement with Correa fell apart.
And just like that, Eduardo Escobar is back as the #Mets third baseman and the #Mets payroll drops to $298 million, which still is the highest in #MLB.

No matter how people look at this situation, the Mets have still had a very successful offseason.
They addressed their pitching needs after the departure of Jacob deGrom by signing Justin Verlander, Jose Quintana, and Kodai Senga.
The team added relievers Adam Ottavino and David Robertson to strengthen their bullpen.
They also brought back Brandon Nimmo and signed catcher Omar Narvaez.
So even without Correa, things are looking good in Queens.
The Mets already won 101 games during the 2022 regular season and captured the top Wild Card spot in the National League.
Their season came to an abrupt end after they lost in the first round to the San Diego Padres.
But owner Steve Cohen went straight to work and made some key moves to help strengthen the Mets roster for 2023.
Mets fans are certainly frustrated today after the news of Correa signing back in Minnesota, but the team has still been very productive this winter.
