The New York Mets are currently in free-fall mode.
Not unlike the Los Angeles Angels last season, not much has gone right for New York this season.
The team is 18-20 and sits 7.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the top spot in the NL East.
They are only one game back of the third Wild Card spot in the National League, but are still slipping in the standings.
On Thursday, they were shut out by the Cincinnati Reds, losing by a final score of 5-0.
With the loss, the Mets were shut out for the seventh time this season and ultimately dropped their fifth consecutive series.
SNY, the TV home of the Mets, pointed out this sad fact on Twitter.
The Mets just dropped their fifth straight series

In addition, the Mets had not lost five consecutive series since September of 2012.
Needless to say, things are not going according to plan for New York.
The Mets were expected to be a clear contender for an NL East title this season.
While there is still time to figure things out, the Mets are currently in fourth place.
The Philadelphia Phillies have seemingly overcome their rough start and have found themselves right back in the thick of the race.
The Miami Marlins are also ahead of the Mets in the standings.
But the Mets are in free-fall mode and have lost seven of their previous 10 games.
There is a great deal of talent on the roster for the Mets, but they are still grossly underachieving as the 2023 season progresses and we move closer to the midpoint of the season.
