Millions of people have been remembering and cherishing Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers over the past week.
That’s because August 23 would have been Bryant’s 44th birthday while the day after, 8/24, was known as Kobe Day, an unofficial holiday to celebrate one of the greatest stars to ever play in the NBA.
But some families got to remember Bryant in a very special and heartwarming way.

The Lakers sent gifts to babies born at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital on August 23, including “mamba swag” and a letter that read, “One of your family’s most special days has landed on one of our organization’s most celebrated days. On this year’s Kobe Day, here’s to your next generation Lakers fan.”
One image of a little bundle of joy wearing a Lakers blanket and a number 8 beanie made the rounds online and touched the hearts of millions of LA fans.
What a great way to memorialize the Black Mamba.
A New Tradition
This is the first time the Lakers have made such a sweet gesture to the families of LA but it surely won’t be the last.
Celebrations of Bryant have only grown in the two years since his sudden passing.
The city cherishes the late superstar and it is filled with murals and memorials to the legendary Laker.
There are currently plans for a statue of Bryant outside of Crypto.com Arena but there will be countless other ways for the team and the city to remember him.
It is really sweet to see the Lakers reach out to families in the greater Los Angeles area in such a nice way and it’s also great to see so much love for Bryant over the last week.
It proves that people will always remember him as one of the greats.
