It’s safe to say at this point that you can almost officially count the Los Angeles Angels out if you’re making predictions for the 2022 postseason.
Ever since a 14-game losing skid at the end of May derailed their hot start, they have fallen well out of playoff contention and are now simply fighting to stay out of the cellar in the American League West.
Though there have been a few bright spots, one of them being the emergence of Taylor Ward, there hasn’t been much beyond that.
Ward himself commented on the Halos’ struggles and how mind-boggling it is to think that they’re in this position now.
Sam Blum of The Athletic posted a tweet featuring Ward’s comments.
Taylor Ward on the Angels' recent struggles:
"It's been extremely tough. Especially going off where we were at the first month of the season. It's crazy to me that we're in this position. But, you know, you keep going, you never know."

Halos Continue To Lose Ground
A lot has happened since the Angels got off to their hot start and were near the top of the power rankings at the end of April.
There’s more where that came from, and it can’t simply be chalked up to just baseball being a crazy game.
The free-fall of this team has been catastrophic.
Once the early-season darlings in the American League West, the Angels now find themselves in fourth place in the division, 20 games back of the Houston Astros following their loss last night.
They’re also eight games back in the Wild Card hunt.
Ward is just as shocked as the rest of us.
This looked like the year when the Angels were finally going to come out of their rut.
It looked like they finally had enough pitching to contend for the postseason.
But that is not the case right now.
Ward alluded to the fact that there is still time to turn it around, but it does not look good for these Halos.
