Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani is truly a freak of nature, a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
He completely dominated the Houston Astros, one of MLB’s top offenses, on Wednesday night.
He threw six innings, conceding just four hits, two walks and a single run.
Oh, and he struck out 12 hitters in the incredible performance.
With the bat, he also had a night to remember, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run, and two RBI.
The most amazing part of his performances is what he does when he sees runners on base.
This is a crucial part in today’s game: it’s hard to measure or predict performance with runners in scoring position, but each time Ohtani sees them, his game improves dramatically.
It’s amazing to watch.
“Shohei Ohtani’s 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 MLB slugging percentages when there are runners in scoring position: Shohei when batting —–> .𝟲𝟮𝟱 Shohei when pitching —-> .𝟮𝟬𝟭 This is completely insane,” Codify Baseball tweeted.

Incredible Numbers In The Slugging Department
As a hitter, when Ohtani sees RISP, he slugs an incredible .625.
As a result, obviously, he earns lots of RBI, being so timely and opportunistic (he has 56 this year and accumulated 100 last year, for example).
However, when he is on the mound, he gets very, very stingy when hitters reach second or third base.
His slugging percentage allowed in that situation is an incredible .201.
.201!!
After last night’s gem, his ERA fell to 2.38, and it’s easy to see why.
A few batters may be able to reach second or third base, but that’s when Ohtani the pitcher gets even better.
He is just too good for this world: maybe they have a league in Mars in which he is challenged more often.
