The New York Jets have made some noise in free agency.
The team looked to address their glaring need for an improved offensive line, and they also added more firepower to the wide receiver corps.
Nonetheless, not everybody seems to be sold on them.
Notably, that includes ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith.
Talking on First Take, he questioned the Jets’ ability to stay healthy for when it matters the most, pointing out the ages of Aaron Rodgers and Tyron Smith (via Paul Andrew Esden Jr).
.@stephenasmith is NOT sold on the #Jets heading into the 2024 season…
‘Do they have the pieces to go all the way? … I’m not so sure. I’m not going to say definitively yes.
One of the reasons is because we don’t know if [Tyron] Smith is going to be healthy like you said when… pic.twitter.com/U8QWa4PVC2

He also doesn’t have much faith in Nathaniel Hackett, stating that the offensive coordinator won’t be good enough when it comes to making adjustments against opposing defenses.
Truth be told, all the concerns are valid.
Then again, we’re talking about a team that already features an elite defense.
They will now have their future Hall of Famer quarterback on the field, and they have two legitimate stars in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.
Of course, Smith isn’t exactly young, and there will always be injury concerns, especially when it comes to a team playing on turf.
But if the Jets have been knocking on the door of a postseason berth without good quarterback play, it’s only natural to see the fans getting excited when they land one of the greatest passers in NFL history.
This could also be the end of the line for HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas, so they should be extremely motivated and aggressive to get the job done once and for all before finding themselves looking for a new job.
