For now, it looks like Mitchell Trubisky will be the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback.
Only a miraculous training camp from either Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins could prevent that scenario from happening.
The Steelers gave the former UNC standout what amounts to bridge quarterback money (two years, $14 million).
Therefore, the team isn’t hiding their approach to finding Ben Roethlisberger‘s successor.
For his part, Trubisky is already inviting passing targets and fellow quarterbacks to his Florida home for an offseason workout.
But as he gears up for next season, the team’s top brass continues to assess this year’s quarterback class, as NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared.
The #Steelers have been one of the most interested teams when it comes to QB draft prospects and it all picks up soon: Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder flies to PIT tonight for a visit tomorrow and then UNC QB Sam Howell has his #Steelers visit on Friday. Steelers pick 20th overall.

Rapoport tweeted, “The #Steelers have been one of the most interested teams when it comes to QB draft prospects and it all picks up soon: Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder flies to PIT tonight for a visit tomorrow, and then UNC QB Sam Howell has his #Steelers visit on Friday. Aside from bringing prospects to Pittsburgh, the Steelers also attended the Pro Days of Liberty’s Malik Willis and Ole Miss’ Matt Corral.
They even deferred from going to Ohio State’s Pro Day to see Corral up close.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert are doing their homework to find the right guy.
The Steelers’ 2022 Draft Situation
The Steelers currently hold the 20th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Based on the teams that will pick before them, only the Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks might draft a quarterback.
However, they don’t know which play-callers these teams will select.
That information helps them determine if they need to trade up or stay where they are to get the player they want.
But if they’re not convinced with anyone, they might use that pick to fill other roster holes, especially on their offensive line.
