After Ben Roethlisberger‘s retirement, the Pittsburgh Steelers were in the quarterback market for the first time in nearly two decades.
There have been rumors that they might bring in Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, or Russell Wilson.
However, they acquired Mitchell Trubisky on a two-year, $14,285,000 deal to provide stability at the position.
But he’s not declaring himself as the team’s starter because he has to compete with Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins.
Yet the former Chicago Bears starter isn’t wasting any time getting to know his teammates better, as NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala shared.
Remember Mitch Trubisky talking about coming into Pittsburgh and leading right away? He’s having the #Steelers pass-catchers and the other QBs (Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins) down to his FL home this weekend to throw and hang out. I’m told RB Najee Harris is going too.

Taking a page out of Tom Brady’s approach when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is a great way to build team chemistry, not to mention familiarization with plays and routes.
However, Trubisky’s intentions aren’t much of a secret because he doesn’t have much time to prove himself.
The two-year contract worth roughly $7 million annually is an audition to see what he can do.
Pittsburgh won’t feel the financial crunch if he doesn’t pan out.
But if he does, he will be up for a sizable contract extension.
Steelers Might Draft A Quarterback
Even with Trubisky on board, the Steelers might select a quarterback early in the 2022 NFL Draft.
When that happens, the former UNC standout will likely be a mentor to the younger play-caller.
Until that prospect is ready, Trubisky will serve as the team’s bridge quarterback.
Once their draftee prospers, his time with Pittsburgh might be over unless he’s willing to become the backup.
The Steelers is Trubisky’s final opportunity to prove that he’s worthy to be a starter.
