In his first NBA Summer League game on Friday, San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama was very underwhelming, going 2-of-13 from the field and scoring in single digits.
But on Sunday, he looked a lot like the player many expect him to eventually become, putting up 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
However, fans who want to see more from the French phenom will have to wait until October, as the Spurs are shutting him down for the rest of the summer league, according to Mike Finger.
Can report Victor Wembanyama is now 100% finished with summer league, per the Spurs.
All along, two games was the plan. Spurs wanted him to get a taste of the NBA, and he got it. Team saw what it wanted to see, now giving him a break after a busy 12 months.

While Wembanyama’s second game on Sunday calmed a lot of concerns some had after his first contest, it also made it clear he does have plenty of work to do.
While the form on his jumper looks solid, his consistency can still use plenty of work, although he did go 2-of-4 from 3-point range on Sunday.
Physically, he’s very skinny for someone who is 7-foot-3 (he reportedly weighs just 209 pounds), and his lack of strength is evident in multiple situations.
While he does a decent job of going after rebounds, at times opponents are able to knock the ball away from him or simply overpower him when it looks like he has gotten control of the ball.
At least once in summer league play, Wembanyama has looked to post someone up, only to get pushed off the block and lose his balance.
He will certainly be a work in progress, but at the same time, Sunday’s contest showed that he could still put up good numbers on both ends of the floor as a rookie this coming season.
