As the trade deadline approaches, the entire baseball world is wondering what the Los Angeles Angels will do with Shohei Ohtani.
In the meantime, the two-way star is continuing to put together yet another impressive season.
Ohtani won the American League MVP award in 2021 and finished second in the race behind Aaron Judge last season.
In fact, Ohtani appears to be mirroring his 2021 season.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale pointed out some interesting stats.
Through the Halos’ first 95 games this season, Ohtani has hit 35 home runs and picked up 75 RBI while posting an OPS of 1.068 in his first 359 at-bats.
Two years ago, the two-way star had hit 34 homers and driven in 74 runs in his first 325 at-bats while posting an OPS of 1.028 through the first 95 games.
The Angels are 47-48 through their first 95 this year and enjoyed the same record through their first 95 in 2021.
Look familiar?

These stat sheets are very similar, and it goes to show just how dynamic of a player Ohtani truly is.
It also shows just how similar this season has been to Ohtani’s MVP season from two years ago up to this point.
Obviously, the two-way star is a prime candidate to win MVP honors this season and is leading the rest of the pack in the American League.
At this pace, Ohtani would almost certainly recapture the award and add yet another piece of hardware to his collection.
Ohtani was an All-Star for the third straight season this year.
He is a free agent at the end of the 2023 season and could very well be on the move.
But for now, he’ll continue putting up MVP-caliber stats with the Halos, barring a trade.
