The Los Angeles Angels have something truly special in two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani is special in that he is doing something that hasn’t been done since the days of the great Babe Ruth.
Ruth was an ace pitcher and an elite slugger simultaneously.
Ohtani is doing the same thing these days with the Halos.
And the stats certainly show just how similar the two superstars are to each other.
MLB insider Hector Gomez pointed out some interesting numbers on Twitter.
In his first 674 games, Ruth had hit 159 home runs and posted a 35-18 record in his first 455 innings pitched.
Ohtani has hit 160 home runs in his first 674 games and posted a 35-19 record over 455 innings of work.

Ohtani is often referred to as the modern-day incarnation of Ruth, and it is easy to see why.
His numbers certainly back up that claim.
Ohtani has truly been a dynamic player since making his Major League debut all the way back n 2018.
His stats rival those of Ruth in several categories.
Ruth, like Ohtani, was an ace pitcher and an elite hitter.
Ohtani is able to do both simultaneously, making him one of, if not the most well-rounded player in the history of baseball.
The numbers show just how impressive and elite Ohtani is as a player.
The comparisons to Ruth are also some solid evidence as to why he’s such a special player.
Both could do things that most players in baseball never could and still can’t.
The two legends are truly very similar players.
