There has been plenty of chatter about Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots lately.
Robert Kraft was non-committal when asked about the prospect of Belichick finishing his career in New England or breaking Don Shula’s record, pretty much stating that he needs to earn the right to stay with the team.
Notably, one would think that Belichick would have earned the benefit of the doubt after six Super Bowl rings in 25 years with the organization, but Kraft has a more pragmatic and practical business approach, it seems.
So, while some criticized the business owner for having such a short memory, NFL legend Shannon Sharpe actually agrees with the controversial team owner.
Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft displayed 'clear' tension during the league's meetings:

Sharpe pointed out that the coaches often tell the players and the media that football is a business, yet it seems like they sometimes forget that very same thing.
He added that if Tom Brady — who won six Super Bowl rings for the organization — didn’t get a lifetime contract, then why should Belichick get one?
“Tom Brady won six Super Bowls and he didn’t get a lifetime contract. Why should Bill Belichick get one? What has Belichick done after Brady left? They went to the playoffs once and lost to Buffalo 47-17,” Sharpe said.
The Patriots have struggled vastly sans Brady, so it’s not like the coach has done enough to prove that he can still lead the team to success at this point in his career.
Belichick is just 30 wins away from Don Shula in the all-time rankings, but the Patriots don’t want to keep him around and have four or five losing seasons just for the sake of the record, and they have every right to feel that way.
So, this could be a make-or-break season for Belichick’s legacy.
