The New Orleans Saints likely aren’t going to make the playoffs this season.
As such, there’s not much of a point in risking their veteran’s health.
According to a report by ProFootballTalk, Derek Carr is ‘very unlikely’ to return this season.

Notably, Carr only played ten games this season because of injury.
There are also serious doubts about whether Carr will return to the team next season.
There’s a potential out in his contract at the end of the season.
Dennis Allen was his biggest advocate, so they might want to reconsider all their options now that he’s no longer there.
Jake Haener beat Spencer Rattler for the backup job, but the latter might still be a starting-caliber signal-caller.
The Saints don’t look like a team that will compete at a high level for now, at least until they solve their coaching and quarterback situations.
Carr is what he is at this point in his career, and while he’s better than most backups, he might not be a starter in the league anymore, at least not for a team with playoff or Super Bowl aspirations.
