The New Orleans Saints are building their coaching staff with a distinct Dallas Cowboys influence, bringing in familiar faces who have proven their worth elsewhere.
Mike McCarthy’s departure from Dallas created opportunities for change, and one key member of his staff has found a new home.
A quarterbacks coach who worked extensively with Dak Prescott will now rejoin Kellen Moore.
“The Saints are hiring Scott Tolzien as their new QBs coach under Kellen Moore, sources say, as Tolzien and Moore reunite after both being on the Cowboys coaching staff,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X. “A former NFL QB, Tolzien is now a rising young coach and a key hire for New Orleans.”

Tolzien’s connection with Moore runs deep, having served as a Cowboys coaching assistant from 2020 to 2022 before becoming quarterbacks coach the past two seasons.
The reunion could bring valuable continuity and expertise to the Saints’ offensive system.
Tolzien was Wisconsin’s quarterback in 2009 and 2010 and helped the team to a Rose Bowl appearance.
His NFL playing career included a notable stint with the Green Bay Packers, where he stepped in for an injured Aaron Rodgers in 2013, followed by time with the Indianapolis Colts.
After hanging up his cleats, Tolzien transitioned to coaching when McCarthy brought him to the Dallas staff.
His progression to quarterbacks coach demonstrated his growing expertise in player development.
Now, as he joins forces with Moore in New Orleans, the Saints are assembling a coaching staff that combines proven experience with established working relationships.
