After about two decades of ineptitude, the Las Vegas Raiders may have a chance to finally turn things around.
They have a new head coach in Pete Carroll, the former longtime Seattle Seahawks head coach who won a Super Bowl championship in the 2013 season, and they also hired John Spytek to be their new general manager.
Amid these significant changes, the Raiders reportedly parted ways with assistant general manager Champ Kelly, who had held that role for them since 2022.
“New GM John Spytek is making over the front office and Kelly, the onetime Raiders interim GM, will pursue opportunities elsewhere,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Kelly got his first NFL front office job in 2007 with the Denver Broncos as a college scout, and his role with the Raiders was the first time he had been an assistant GM.
The Raiders have many roster holes that need to be addressed, and it looks like they are serious about doing so.
Their biggest need is at quarterback, and they also need legitimate No. 1 threats at wide receiver and running back, and luckily, they have plenty of salary cap space.
The Raiders were 4-13 this season, which was their worst finish since 2014, and as usual, they missed the playoffs, making it the 20th time in the past 22 seasons they failed to reach the postseason.
They have the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which may be too low to get a potential franchise quarterback, but they may be able to nab a skill player or some help on defense with that selection.
