The Atlanta Falcons have their franchise quarterback.
Signing Kirk Cousins in free agency gave them a much-needed boost at the most crucial position in the game.
However, he’s not getting any younger and he’s coming off a major injury.
Also, given how quarterbacks have fared, health-wise, over the past couple of years, they need to address their backup QB situation.
With that in mind, new HC Raheem Morris claimed that Taylor Heinicke would compete with whoever they get to be their third-string quarterback for the backup position, according to a report by Josh Kendall of The Athletic.
Taylor Heinicke will compete against whichever third quarterback Atlanta brings in for the backup job, Raheem Morris said.

Truth be told, this makes perfect sense.
Heinicke does come with some experience as a backup, and he’s proven that he can win a game every now and then if need be.
Nonetheless, he failed to make the most of the chance he got to do his thing in Atlanta.
The Falcons have stacked plenty of talent on offense, logging three potential stars in the first round in three consecutive seasons.
They’re going to pay Cousins a lot of money even though they know he might not be there four years from now because of his age, and that only proves that they’re ready to go all-in and compete right away.
That’s why they cannot afford to have a subpar backup quarterback right now, as we’ve seen promising teams fail to live up to the hype because of an injured quarterback way too many times in recent years already.
