The 2024 NFL Draft was historic for many reasons, but the six quarterbacks taken in the first round was one for the record books.
People couldn’t stop talking about the QBs in the class leading up to the season, wondering how they would fare in a continuously-improving landscape at the position.
Every QB came into the year with their expectations and pressure from their respective fanbases, and besides J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings, every one got at least one opportunity to start.
Among them was New England Patriots newcomer Drake Maye, who was given the impossible task of trying to follow in Tom Brady’s footsteps as the new face of the franchise.
Maye’s rookie campaign had some speedbumps along the way, but he showed enough for fans to have confidence in him heading into 2025.
The team has a lot of work to do if they want to compete in the division, let alone the conference, but many reports indicate that Maye is well on his way.
Peter Schrager spoke highly of Maye on Pat McAfee’s show.
“I’ve heard Drake Maye has been absolutely wonderful so far,” Schrager said.

From the notes from coaches and what beat reporters are saying, it seems that Maye is outperforming what many thought of him heading into camp.
He got a few new pieces on offense that should help his cause, pass-catcher-wise, and the offensive line appears to be coming together.
The Patriots might not be a Super Bowl favorite or a contender at any point this year, but they have hope, which is all the fanbase can ask for.
