Heading into the 2023-24 NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks are hoping their gamble on Kyrie Irving will pay off.
The Mavericks swung big this past trade deadline as they acquired Irving from the Brooklyn Nets after the two sides couldn’t agree on a contract extension.
Irving’s tenure with Brooklyn was filled with off-court drama and there was skepticism that he would be able to make it work in Dallas.
Although the star guard didn’t cause any trouble, the Mavericks ultimately missed the postseason.
However, Dallas still rewarded Irving with a three-year deal in free agency and are once again betting that he and Luka Doncic can make it work on the court.
There’s no doubt that Irving is one of the most talented players in the league and Paul George had some fun breaking down one of his Team USA clips that went viral via Podcast P with Paul George.
Definitely need Kyrie on Team USA at the Olympics next summer 😮💨@hoopmixtape pic.twitter.com/xnIp96Kau0

The video features Irving dribbling through the Team USA starters, a dazzling display of handles and control.
It was one of the first times players like George can remember Irving showing off just how good he was and it would later translate to the NBA as the guard put several players in a highlight reel.
The clip is somewhat topical as the United States just came in fourth place in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
With the disappointing finish, several stars are reportedly already interested in committing to playing in the 2024 Paris Olympics including Irving.
Irving is no stranger to international play and he would be a welcomed addition for the Americans.
