After decades of mishaps and poor basketball decisions, the New York Knicks are finally a legitimate playoff contender.
The Knicks have been one of the more fun stories of the 2023-24 NBA season as they’ve got a tough-minded roster filled with gritty players under head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Leading the way is Jalen Brunson who made his first All-Star Game this season after being snubbed last year.
Brunson’s presence has stabilized the Knicks on both ends of the floor and he has them looking like a dangerous postseason team that no other teams should want to play.
The point guard has breathed life back into New York basketball that hasn’t been seen since Patrick Ewing was dominating the league.
Recently, Ewing opened up about his relationship with Brunson via New York Basketball.
“I’ve been knowing him since he was 2 years old…He wouldn’t leave my locker…I took the Knicks back to Jamaica one summer…My daughter sent a picture of both her and him…I sent it on to Rick [Brunson]…something great,” Ewing said.

Jalen’s father Rick Brunson was a teammate of Ewing so the star guard is quite familiar with the legendary Knicks center.
It seems like the two have remained in touch and it’s fun for fans to see the past and present of the franchise having a close relationship.
During his playing days, Ewing was unable to lead the team to a championship despite having a couple of opportunities to do so.
However, Brunson has a chance to lead the Knicks to the promised land and give fans something to cheer about again.
