Russell Westbrook is one of the greatest players in NBA history, plain and simple.
Even so, because of his shooting woes, a couple of subpar seasons by his standards, and some serious slander by some members of the media, some fans continue to call him “Westbrick” as of late.
Granted, Westbrook has never been a good three-point shooter, but there was a brief stretch when he was actually the most efficient three-point threat for the Los Angeles Clippers, shooting over 40% from beyond the arc during that time.
That’s why his foe-turned-friend Patrick Beverley came to his defense during his latest appearance on Gilbert Arenas’ “Gil’s Arena” show, via NBACentral.
Pat Bev says Russell Westbrook doesn’t deserve the nickname “Westbrick” after shooting 40% from 3

Beverley claimed it doesn’t make sense that people continue to call him “Westbrick” even though he was the best shooter on the Clippers late in the season.
It’s nice to see someone come to Westbrook’s defense, but to be fair, he’s never shot better than 34% from beyond the arc in his career, so people might be right to call him out for the only flaw in his offensive game.
Still, Westbrook has let it be known that he doesn’t want to hear anybody call him that because he feels it’s disrespectful to his family, personally going against Skip Bayless for coining that nickname and refusing to cut it out.
It’s sad to see how someone’s platform can be so harmful to a player’s legacy, but hopefully, time will give Westbrook his rightful place in NBA history, and there’s no doubt that he should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
