NBA players make way more money than the average human being.
Even role players have minor celebrity status and more money to spend.
However, the NBA life also comes with some demands.
In addition to being in top shape – which should go without saying – and missing many things because of all the traveling, they can be traded without their consent.
According to Pat Riley, that is the most difficult part of the business.
Talking to Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller on “The OGs” podcast (via NBA Central), he claimed that while free agents can go anywhere, he has a hard time trading a player.

He talked about how teams needed to be honest and straightforward.
Ironically, a couple of months ago, former Heat star Caron Butler told the story on that podcast of how he asked Riley if he would be traded and bought a house in Miami when he assured him that he would stay on the team.
Butler was traded shortly after.
Of course, things happen very fast in the NBA, so plans might have to change as quickly at times.
There’s no perfect line of job.
NBA players are set for life, or they should be, after making that kind of money.
But no good deed goes unpunished, and they must put a lot on the line to get that cash.
