It won’t be long before Max Scherzer returns from his oblique injury and rejoins the New York Mets.
Jacob deGrom is making steady progress as well.
In the meantime, however, the Mets are still without their two aces.
The rotation fell on some hard times without those guys, but that hasn’t really phased the Mets that much, if at all.
They’ve still remained atop the National League East and own the best record in the entire NL.
In fact, since Scherzer went down, only one team has played better baseball than they have.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network pointed out on Twitter that New York is 22-14 since losing Scherzer.
Max Scherzer is poised to return to @MLB, and here's another piece of good news for @Mets fans to consider:
Since Scherzer landed on the IL in May, their 22-14 record is second best in the NL. Only the @Braves (26-11) are ahead of them. @MLBNetwork

Mets Still Winning Games
That’s something right there that the Mets and their fans can take pride in.
That “next man up” mentality is working for the Metropolitans and they have continued to play great baseball.
The only concern is that the one team that has played better than they have during this stretch is their division rivals, the Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta has shrunk New York’s lead in the NL East all the way down to just three games.
At the very least though, the Mets have been able to mostly keep pace with the defending World Series champions.
They still are in the top spot, which is all that matters right now.
They still are at the top of the National League record-wise, and they are about to get a major boost with Scherzer’s return.
And before long, they’ll have deGrom back too and that rotation will be back at full strength.
We’ll see what happens in the meantime and when Scherzer ultimately is activated from the IL.
