Last season, the Denver Broncos pulled out all the stops and were determined to make a drastic move in order to improve the product on the field, which meant the team was going to bring in a franchise quarterback.
That quarterback was rumored to be either Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, as both superstars seemed to have fallen out of favor with their respective teams and were ready to move on to greener pastures.
Ultimately, Rodgers stayed with the Green Bay Packers for one more season, and Wilson was acquired by the Broncos in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
The move was thought to immediately make the Broncos a Super Bowl title contender or at least one of the best teams in the AFC, but neither scenario came to fruition as the team struggled and Wilson was thought to be on the downside of his career.
Now, Wilson has Sean Payton calling the shots on the sideline in Denver, and the two seem to be on the same page with high hopes for the 2023 campaign, but Nick Wright of Fox Sports doesn’t believe it will result in success for the storied franchise, via The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
"If he's going to coach this team as if they have all pro Russell Wilson, I think he's going to be sadly mistaken."

Although Payton has been optimistic about turning things around in Denver, it wasn’t until this week that he really got behind Wilson as his starting quarterback and a player the team can succeed with.
Payton blamed the past regime for the team’s downfall last year and claimed things would get back on track this year with Wilson leading the way under center, which obviously, remains to be seen.
