Before the start of last season, the Denver Broncos made the bold move to make a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire superstar quarterback Russell Wilson.
Initially, it looked like a brilliant move by the Broncos, who have had success bringing in potential over-the-hill quarterbacks and winning a Super Bowl, as they did with Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.
With the franchise winning two Super Bowls with an aging John Elway and one with Manning at the end of his career, bringing in Wilson seemed like a home run, as he looked like he had more in the tank than both of the superstars above.
Unfortunately, Wilson appeared to have been exposed during his first season in Denver, as he looked like a shell of his former self, making this trade one of the worst the team had ever made.
However, new head coach Sean Payton has come to Wilson’s defense, as he believes it was the coaching staff that was to blame for last season’s disaster, and Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard totally agrees with that stance, via First Things First.
"Bravo, Sean Payton! Preach!! Sean was watching the games and thinking the same thing I was! It's not Russ!"

Payton recently bashed last year’s Broncos team and blamed a lot of different things for the way the season turned out, but he does feel that Wilson was unjustly made the fall guy for the team’s shortcomings.
In 2023, Payton and Wilson will be under tremendous pressure right out of the gate, as the one-time Super Bowl champion head coach is expected to turn things around in Denver while the veteran quarterback hopes to return to his superstar form.
