Vic Fangio had a great shot to close out the 2021 Denver Broncos season on a high note.
His team led late against the Kansas City Chiefs, only to see a late fumble turn the tide.
Fangio then decided to kick a field goal late while down seven, and his offense never got the ball back.
Fans were fed up and the organization apparently was as well, given Fangio’s firing on Sunday.
Broncos have fired Vic Fangio, per a team official.

Vic Fangio should already be on his way to Ashburn…We need a new DC#WashingtonFootball

Fangio got the job in Denver after building his resume as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears.
Unfortunately, the front office never figured out the quarterback position and the head coach had three losing seasons.
@VicFangio pack your stuff up and come to Chicago

George Paton on Fangio: “The record may not be reflective of where we’re at but one thing about Vic Fangio, he’s the best coach I’ve ever been around.’’ #9sports

Vic Fangio seems liked by his players and is a GREAT defensive mind. But he came in talking about 'death by inches' yet his teams regularly did the little things wrong, especially on special teams. Right call to let him go, tons of pressure on getting this hire right.

The Broncos have been an interesting organization since Peyton Manning retired.
Vance Joseph got two seasons and won a total of 11 games.
Fangio won 19 in three years.
Broncos firing Vic Fangio? Did he draft Drew Lock and sign Teddy Bridgewater? If not, fire the GM.

George Paton said Vic Fangio was “the best coach I’ve ever been around.” So, what do you focus on when you’re trying to find better? I asked Paton about this, and he pointed to “leadership,” someone to “lead the entire operation.” pic.twitter.com/kULE4aajin

It is telling how fans all around the NFL are clamoring for their team to sign Fangio.
Broncos GM George Paton talking up the coach also proves his best role may be in that coordinator position.
You know Vic Fangio is available. https://t.co/GIrhgP6In9

Jaguars need to hire Byron Leftwich as Head Coach and make Vic Fangio their defensive coordinator. Quick turnaround. https://t.co/zBDrFaxM2y

The Broncos now have a long list of candidates to interview, but they are fooling themselves if they don’t first focus on the quarterback position.
Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater did not provide much evidence that either is the future of the franchise.
The goal now may be to do whatever it takes to land Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson in a trade.
If they fail, any head coach is going to have a tough time succeeding in Denver next season.
