The Dallas Cowboys still haven’t made up their mind on tight end Dalton Schultz.
It’s peculiar that the Cowboys haven’t given him a long-term extension even if he had 808 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season.
He also had a decent game during their Wild Card Game against the San Francisco 49ers, completing seven receptions for 89 yards.
Those numbers should be enough proof that the former Stanford standout is worth the investment.
However, the Cowboys assigned him the franchise tag worth $10.9 million.
It’s the lowest value among positions on an NFL team and giving him the tag buys Dallas more time to finalize a deal.
But even if his future with the Cowboys is still in limbo, Schultz is deciding to honor the contract he signed, as shared by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.
#Cowboys franchise-tagged TE Dalton Schultz will report to minicamp today, per source.
No deal imminent, but contract talks have picked up in recent days. Schultz already signed his tender, locking in a $10.931 million salary for 2022 if no deal by July 15.

The words “no deal imminent” should frustrate Cowboys fans, especially with a number of deals this offseason that can be used as a guide for his deal.
The Cleveland Browns gave David Njoku a four-year, $57.4 million dollar contract and Schultz deserves that monetary value, if not a bit higher.
Schultz And The Cowboys Should Get This Done Soon
Delaying the signing will only prolong the agony among die-hard Cowboys fans.
But Schultz believes that being at Dallas is the best situation for him.
Therefore, the ball is in the Cowboys’ court to come up with a figure that he will agree with.
They must get this done before the season starts because it would be difficult to negotiate if Schultz is already focused on helping the team win.
