The Dallas Cowboys and tight end Dalton Schultz still haven’t reached an agreement.
The team assigned their franchise tag on Schultz, assuring him of a one-year salary worth $10.9 million.
However, he would like to have job security by getting a long-term deal.
Extending Schultz’s stay should be a no-brainer for the Cowboys after his breakout 2021 season.
However, the negotiations between the two parties haven’t produced the desired result.
If David Njoku got a four-year deal from the Cleveland Browns, Schultz should also get his due from the Cowboys, especially after having better stats than his counterpart.
Some football experts might argue that Njoku has the better upside but it doesn’t mean anything until he delivers.
Meanwhile, Schultz has delivered for Dallas with 808 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
Without a deal in place, the tight end might skip the mandatory minicamp to send a stern message.
Dalton Schultz is essentially saying he doesn't want to go on the company retreat.
It's not meant to make the Cowboys cave. It's meant to make them notice he's not there and the other members of his division aren't capable of doing his role.
Everything isn't an all or nothing.

The Cowboys Wire managing editor KD Drummond tweeted, “Dalton Schultz is essentially saying he doesn’t want to go on the company retreat. It’s not meant to make the Cowboys cave. The Cowboys Can’t Compete Without Schultz
Perhaps the team is banking on rookie Jake Ferguson to take over for Schultz.
But until it is proven that he is a better option, the Cowboys should do what it takes to bring back their primary tight end.
Aside from helping block in their run game, he can also field balls from Dak Prescott to keep the chains moving.
Therefore, Schultz is using his non-attendance to send a message that he is vital to their cause.
Otherwise, other NFL teams will fight for his services once the tag ends.
