The Carolina Panthers closed out the season on a high note.
Following a disastrous start to the campaign, they still had a shot at winning their division despite having a terrible quarterback situation, losing Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson, and playing under an interim coach.
So, now that they’ve hired Frank Reich to lead the project for the future, they’re making sure to add the right guys around him.
That’s why they hired former Denver Broncos’ Defensive Coordinator Ejiro Evero to become their new DC, perhaps one of the most underrated moves of the off-season, per NFL insider Field Yates.
This is a tremendous hire for the Panthers.
There are some really good ingredients in place and Ejiro Evero is a massive get to be the architect of this defense. https://t.co/O4CY4qbaGy

Evero orchestrated the league’s seventh-best defense last season, just one year after he helped the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl as their secondary coach and passing game coordinator.
The 42-year-old is one of the quickest-rising assistants in the league, and he even interviewed with the Panthers for their HC job before they eventually hired Reich.
Of course, there weren’t a lot of positive things to say about Nathaniel Hackett’s Broncos, but their defense always put them in a position to compete and kept them in contention more often than not.
The NFC South will be up for grabs now that Tom Brady has retired, and while it might as well be the league’s worst division, it also gives the Panthers a solid shot at a pennant and a yearly postseason berth.
They still need to make some moves and find their next QB1, but there’s no denying that they’re heading in the right direction.
