The Seattle Seahawks are entering their first season without Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson.
Under his leadership, the team made the playoffs eight times and won Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos.
Ironically, the Seahawks traded Wilson and a fourth-round selection to the Broncos in exchange for three players and five draft picks.
One of the players Seattle received was quarterback Drew Lock, who spent three seasons in Denver.
For most of the offseason, it has looked like the starting quarterback role will be contested between him and Geno Smith.
However, CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson revealed their plans of bringing in another quarterback.
I’m told the #Seahawks still have a high-level of interest in acquiring QB Baker Mayfield and behind-the-scenes are open to contractually extending him, per league source. I also know that the process of collecting information and insights into Mayfield is still ongoing.

Anderson tweeted, “I’m told the #Seahawks still have a high-level of interest in acquiring QB Baker Mayfield and behind-the-scenes are open to contractually extending him, per league source. I also know that the process of collecting information and insights into Mayfield is still ongoing.”
The last part of Anderson’s post is crucial, especially because Mayfield came off surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
They would like to know his physical status and if that injury will affect his game.
The Cleveland Browns have been trying to move Mayfield ever since they signed Deshaun Watson to a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed deal.
Even with a possible suspension for Watson, it looks like the Browns will ride with Jacoby Brissett.
Seattle Could Be The Fresh Start Mayfield Is Looking For
The Browns had high hopes for Mayfield after making him the first overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
He did help the team end their postseason drought, but things went south in 2021.
Still, he would be an upgrade from the quarterbacks the Seahawks currently have.
If they end up trading for him, they would like to see if he will build some chemistry with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Rashaad Penny.
With the Seahawks also making moves to improve their offensive line, Mayfield could be in a good position to succeed.
