Ever since Trey Lance was taken as the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, it was common knowledge that veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo‘s days were numbered with the San Francisco 49ers.
Garoppolo, for his part, was the consummate professional who was peppered with questions about his future and his replacement beginning in training camp.
What the 49ers did not fully anticipate was that Garoppolo would lead the 49ers to the NFC Championship.
The 49ers clawed their way into the playoffs under Garoppolo’s leadership and defeated the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers along the way.
With the 49ers’ loss in the NFC Championship to the Los Angeles Rams, it is time to revive the trade talk for Garoppolo.

What The 49ers Want For Garoppolo
NFL insider Matt Lombardo is reporting that for the Steelers the asking price for Garoppolo is a second-round pick or a third-round pick plus a player.
NFL insider @MattLombardoNFL says on @937theFan that the asking price for the Steelers on Jimmy G is a 2nd round pick. Or a 3rd round pick and a player.

Why Lombardo singles out the Steelers exclusively with this information could be because Lombardo’s source is close to the Steelers.
Several teams could be in the market for Garoppolo in addition to the Steelers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints immediately come to mind also.
Is Trey Lance Ready?
That is the million-dollar question.
Lance appeared in six games and started in two of them.
He completed 41 out of 71 passes for 603 yards.
Lance threw five touchdown passes and two interceptions.

He had 38 rushes for 168 yards and one touchdown.
Lance did not have the pressure to perform on him this year as he was sitting behind Garoppolo.
How will he perform when the spotlight is on him?
It is a long 17 game season.
His fellow rookie quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft had their ups and downs.
Mac Jones performed the best, and Davis Mills made big improvements for the Texans near the end of the season.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s Weakness
The critique on Garoppolo is that he throws one or two poor decision passes per game.
Sometimes he gets away with it, but other times they end up being costly interceptions.
Imagine being someone who goes overboard to defend Jimmy Garoppolo and then he plays like that and throws that ridiculous interception at the end

He does have postseason experience, and he led the 49ers to the Super Bowl during the 2019 season.
Garoppolo has decent skills and can be a game manager and winner in the right situation.
