The Houston Texans will have the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft, and until recently, it was generally believed they would take either University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud, the star QB from the Ohio State University.
But recently, there has been a growing feeling they may take a player at a different position — perhaps a pass rusher such as Will Anderson Jr.
Houston also has the No. 12 pick, and Adam Schefter says they have made calls about trading it, either to receive a higher pick or to move down and get back assets for it.
While Houston hasn’t received much trade action so far for the No. 2 pick, the Texans have explored the idea of moving off their second first-round pick, the No. 12 overall selection, per sources. Texans have made calls about moving back in round one – and also moving back up.

DeMeco Ryans, the former defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, has just taken over as the Texans’ new head coach, and it perhaps could be a hint that they may not draft a signal-caller at No. 2.
On the other hand, they had to make do with Davis Mills, who threw for 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with a completion rate of 61.0 percent, under center last season.
Anderson had 10.0 sacks and 17 tackles for loss for the Alabama Crimson Tide last season a year after posting 17.5 sacks and 31.0 tackles for loss, and he is thought to have “star” written all over him.
At No. 12, there could be some interesting players available, such as star running back Bijan Robinson, offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., and tight end Dalton Kincaid.
Regardless of what the Texans decide to do, it looks like they have the tools to give themselves a promising beginning to the post-Deshaun Watson era.
