Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had a fine game during their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The former Oregon standout finished with 33 completions for 334 yards and three touchdowns.
However, they could have sealed a 2-0 record if not for the 99-yard interception return for a touchdown by seventh-round pick Jaylen Watson.
Unfortunately, the defeat also comes with more risks because Herbert will undergo more tests on his ribs and chest due to the crushing hits he received.

NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport said, “[Chargers head coach] Brandon Staley said, ‘You’re not gonna see anyone tougher in the NFL than Justin Herbert.’… Certainly, he was in a significant amount of pain, went to the sideline, and came back to the game.”
Rapoport also confirmed that Herbert had X-rays after the game and it appeared that the results were negative of any concern.
He also pointed out, “Just because his X-rays were negative doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s out of the woods.”
It would be a big blow for the Chargers, a legitimate contender, if Herbert won’t be able to play several games.
A Bright Spot For The Chargers
Herbert has been magnificent for the team ever since his rookie season.
He became the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year after finishing with 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Last season, he earned a Pro Bowl selection after completing 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Herbert also owns rookie quarterback records for most passing touchdowns, most passing yards per game, and most 300-yard games.
He has 9,963 yards and 75 touchdowns as of Week 2 of the 2022 season.
The Chargers have a few more days to either clear Herbert or bench him for Week 3 when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars at So-Fi Stadium.
