While the 2022 NFL Draft is two days away, it’s not generating enough buzz.
Typically, everyone invested in football would be hyped up.
Experts continue to speculate how the draft will unfold while fans hope that their team will land a player that will change their fortunes.
But this year’s draft seems to be approaching with a whimper.
Backstage Media’s Michael Silver summarized the quiet arrival of the 2022 draft.
You will hear the usual pre-draft hype, with an emphasis of 'anything can happen'… but the truth is that this is the least sexy NFL draft of most of our lifetimes and the people doing the drafting know it. It's the 1988 Presidential election of drafts. 🤷🏻♂️

Comparing it to the 1988 presidential election is spot on because George H.W. Bush didn’t make a contest out of it.
While countless mock drafts have been created before the first round, the excitement still isn’t there.
Could it be because teams opted to address their roster concerns through free agency?
Or is the 2022 draft class lackluster in general?
This year’s draft is the perfect time to land a talented wide receiver or an offensive lineman, given the depth of both positions.
An Underwhelming Quarterback Class
The Jacksonville Jaguars will have the first overall selection, and they are likely to draft a defensive end.
While an edge rusher is an essential player on an NFL team, they don’t generate the same excitement as quarterbacks.
Sadly, all teams agree that there are no All-Pro level quarterbacks in this draft.
It could take time for their game to blossom or not at all.
But in a league wherein time is of the essence, teams can’t afford to wait for long before a play-caller develops.
Besides, the 2023 quarterback class shows more promise and a one-year wait wouldn’t hurt.
