Last season, veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 12 touchdowns as one of the two star backs for the Dallas Cowboys, four off of his career-high total set in his record season (16).
Despite finding the endzone 12 times during the 2022 NFL season for the Cowboys, Dallas decided to part ways with Elliott, releasing him after seven years with the team.
Although many have debated whether Elliott has lost a step or two, it was still somewhat surprising to see Dallas cut him loose the way they did, especially considering the dynamic with Pro Bowler Tony Pollard in the backfield.
With training camp right around the corner in the NFL, Elliott remains without a team, as he has yet to draw considerable interest as a free agent.
A running back of Elliott’s caliber and impressive resume rarely go unsigned for long, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network believing the veteran back will get signed around the start of training camp and may end up back with the Cowboys via The Pat McAfee Show.

With Elliott not receiving much interest on the open market and Dallas considering bringing him back into the fold, it may be a foregone conclusion that he’s returning to the Cowboys in the coming weeks.
However, there’s no telling what may happen in the weeks to come as teams may start to discover they’re lacking at the running back position, and few free agents are as capable as Elliott right now, as he could come to any team in need and make an immediate impact.
