Derek Carr will be the Las Vegas Raiders‘ quarterback until the 2025 season as both sides agreed to a three-year, $121.5 million extension.
There’s no word yet on the guaranteed money he will get, but the $41.5 annual average value makes him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
Only time can tell if he will earn all of that money.
But more importantly, the Raiders gave him the power to determine his future, as ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler pointed out.
With Raiders and QB Derek Carr reaching a three-year, $121.5M extension, source confirms (as @RapSheet said), Carr's no-trade clause is significant. Helpful to have if things go sideways with the team. Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson utilized it well.

Fowler tweeted, “With Raiders and QB Derek Carr reaching a three-year, $121.5M extension, source confirms (as @RapSheet said). Carr’s no-trade clause is significant. Helpful to have if things go sideways with the team. Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson utilized it well.”
Having a no-trade clause means that Carr calls the shots.
The Raiders cannot force him to leave even if his performance goes south or if he suffers an injury.
In some ways, that possibility makes this clause a risk for the Raiders.
If the team also concludes that trading away Carr is best for the team, the quarterback will get to choose his destination.
A Masterclass From Wilson And Watson
But if used correctly, Carr can end up in a better situation, like what happened to Wilson and Watson.
The Seattle Seahawks failed to address Wilson’s grievance of improving their offensive line.
As a result, he canceled his no-trade clause for the Denver Broncos.
The Pro Bowl quarterback hopes to lead the team back to the playoffs with a highly-talented offensive unit.
Meanwhile, Watson waited for the right moment to waive his no-trade clause.
He received a five-year, $230 million fully-guaranteed deal from the Cleveland Browns.
Therefore, Carr can attract good fortune if he uses the no-trade clause correctly.
