Quarterback Davis Mills‘ overall stats during his rookie season with the Houston Texans are not overly impressive.
In 13 games played, the Stanford alumnus had 2,664 yards, 16 touchdowns, and ten interceptions.
However, he completed 66.8 percent of his passes and had a three-game stretch wherein he had 794 yards, five touchdowns, and two wins.
He is only one of two rookie quarterbacks (Mac Jones being the other) last year who had a passer rating of at least 130.
These numbers prove that his game is on the rise and has what it takes to lead the Texans to greater heights.
That’s why head coach Lovie Smith has nothing but praise for him.
Smith said, “I’m a believer in Davis Mills & what he’s going to do.. He shows up every day. He’s recruited players to come here. The guys see what he’s doing and he’s working..”
No wonder the Texans are trying to build around him by selecting John Metchie III and Dameon Pierce in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But aside from Smith, CBS Sports’ Senior NFL columnist gave Mills an endorsement.
The more I watch Davis Mills on tape, the more I like. Just going back to re-watch some stuff before camps starts and I love how he plays. The Texans have a steal at quarterback. I liked him before the draft and like him more now.

Prisco tweeted, “The more I watch Davis Mills on tape, the more I like. Just going back to re-watch some stuff before camps starts and I love how he plays. The Texans have a steal at quarterback. I liked him before the draft and like him more now.”
Mills’ Confidence Will Only Grow In Year Two
Now that he knows what it takes to become successful in the league, Mills could elevate the Texans’ gameplay in his sophomore season.
If Metchie pans out, he will suddenly have a solid receiving corps with the former Alabama standout and Brandin Cooks.
While Prisco did not elaborate on his high mark for Mills, perhaps his composure has helped elevate his game from where it was a year ago.
