The Houston Texans‘ return to relevance continues with new head coach Lovie Smith.
Smith did lead the Chicago Bears to an appearance in Super Bowl XLI, and the Texans hope that he can do the same in Houston.
However, that’s easier said than done, especially after consecutive losing seasons.
Since Bill O’Brien traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, they haven’t recovered.
Sadly, the once-AFC South powerhouse has become an afterthought.
Smith hopes to reverse the team’s fate by clocking in more hours at work.
He’s also giving confidence to quarterback Davis Mills, as shared by Tyler Milner.
Texans HC Lovie Smith @ the podium on QB Davis Mills:
"I'm a believer in Davis Mills & what he's going to do.. He shows up every day. He's recruited players to come here. The guys see what he's doing-and he's working.." pic.twitter.com/Q83DC0h0q2

Milner tweeted, “Texans HC Lovie Smith @ the podium on QB Davis Mills: ‘I’m a believer in Davis Mills & what he’s going to do.. He shows up every day. He’s recruited players to come here. The guys see what he’s doing, and he’s working..'”
Houston’s head coach is lucky to have a quarterback to work with.
But a glance at his stats from last season shows that much work needs to be done.
While Mills had 2,664 yards, he also had 16 touchdowns and ten interceptions.
Providing Mills With More Help
If Smith believes in his quarterback, the team should at least allow him to be successful.
Other than wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the Texans need an overhaul all over the roster.
They can use their first-round picks to provide Mills with more targets on offense.
If they use their 11 picks correctly, the Texans might shock some teams on their 2022 schedule.
However, building a competitive team is not an overnight process.
Mills may show tremendous individual improvement, but it might not be enough to score more victories.
At least the confidence that Smith is showing will motivate the young quarterback to work harder.
