It didn’t take long before Joe Burrow proved the Cincinnati Bengals were right for taking him with the first-overall pick.
He led the franchise to a major turnaround in just his second year in the league — which was also his first full season and after suffering a career-threatening injury — by taking them to the Super Bowl, and he’s only gotten better ever since.
In fact, NFL insider Dan Orlovsky believes that he’s actually set the standard for pocket instincts and mechanics around the NFL:
“There’s no one in the NFL that I truly believe has better pocket instincts within a structure than Joe Burrow,” Orlovsky said, showing a clip of how Burrow keeps two hands on the football at all times. “In the way he never compromises the mechanics of that. The reality is this: He handles pressure all the time,” Orlovsky continued. “He’s dealing with pressure all the time. (…) He’s still able to athletically move suddenly and instinctually without compromising [the football].”

Burrow has done an elite job of taking care of the ball, and his ability to get his throws off in the move is breathtaking, yet people don’t mention that part of his game all that often.
While he doesn’t strike you as the most athletic or mobile guy, he’s proven over and over that he can make plays with his feet, and he’s shown the potential to be historically efficient.
So, yeah, he may not have been around for all that long, but Burrow might as well be setting standards already.
