The Dallas Mavericks sailed past the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, beating them 142-116 at home.
It wasn’t a surprise to see the Mavs decimate the Spurs, since San Antonio has a terrible 14-46 record.
But the win was actually quite important for Dallas because it was the first time the team’s new and improved backcourt got a victory.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving enjoyed their first win together with their blowout over the Spurs.
Doncic was solid with his 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists while Irving produced 23 points, 6 assists, and had 3 three-pointers.
Irving has been a member of the Mavericks for a couple of weeks now and the team has experienced several victories with him on board.
But this is the first time that Doncic and Irving played together and won and that’s obviously something they’ll need to repeat many times in the months ahead.
There is no doubt that both of these players can produce many points a night.
But after a few losses, some were wondering if they could actually achieve success on the same team.
Doncic and Irving were accompanied by Tim Hardaway Jr. who scored 22, Christian Wood (who is a bench player again) with 16, and Justin Holiday with 15.
That means that while the team’s big duo did the most, other athletes helped a lot too.
Beating the Spurs isn’t usually a reason to celebrate too much but fans of the team are very excited to see this triumph.
If everything goes according to plan, it will just be one of many wins that Doncic and Irving acquire together.
