Most people don’t expect much from the Brooklyn Nets this season.
They have started 2024-25 with a 1-2 record and it is assumed they will likely miss the playoffs and attempt to rebuild with promising draft picks soon.
That means one of their best players could be coveted by other teams when the trade deadline rolls around.
Evan Sidery pointed out that Dennis Schröder is playing one of the best seasons of his career so far.
He is scoring 20.7 points and 6.3 assists on a 63.1% true-shooting percentage, which are all career-highs.
Sidery wrote, “With the Nets hoping to land a top pick in the 2025 draft, Schröder will become a hot commodity on the trade market for contending teams in need of guard help.”

Schröder playing so well might ironically make him too good for the Nets.
Their plans are to build a stronger team over the years, not in the present, which means they could trade Schröder so they could get assets that will assist them in the future.
Fans should expect to hear a lot of rumors about Schröder in the months ahead, as long as he keeps playing well.
Seeing him get off to a terrific start isn’t surprising because Schröder has played well throughout his career.
He has a career average of 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
He has helped out multiple NBA teams but has played his best basketball when he returns home to represent Germany in FIBA or Olympic games.
During the World Cup and Olympics, Schröder reminds basketball fans how special he is.
At 31 years old, he still has a lot of gas in the tank and the Nets will probably take advantage of that.
But he may serve them better as a trade chip, not a player.
