The NBA world was somewhat shocked on Monday when it was revealed that Kyrie Irving is toying with the idea of leaving the Brooklyn Nets and taking his talents to another team.
We say somewhat shocked because many people weren’t surprised by Irving feeling itchy and wanting to move.
That seems like just the sort of thing the mercurial guard would do.
Sounds like a leverage play from Kyrie, but the possibility of him leaving a team for a second time after saying he wouldn’t go anywhere else is hilarious. https://t.co/AKcC0QsheB

Yet, one NBA writer doesn’t think Irving is really planning to hightail it out of Brooklyn.
Joe Viray said, “Sounds like a leverage play from Kyrie, but the possibility of him leaving a team for a second time after saying he wouldn’t go anywhere else is hilarious.”
Sure enough, there is a good chance that Irving is just trying to flex his muscles and get a bigger payout or a stronger commitment from the Nets.
But there is also a strong chance that Irving really just doesn’t care and truly wants to part ways with the team after just a few seasons.
Moving On?
Predicting the moves of Irving can be very difficult.
The man goes to the beat of his own drum and truly doesn’t worry about what other people think.
This became even more evident in the last season when he missed months and months with his team due to his refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
It’s also been on display in the past with his public comments and his moves around the league.
That’s why you can’t count out the concept that maybe Irving really is unhappy and really does want to leave Brooklyn.
However, he’s also a smart businessman so maybe he actually is trying to force Brooklyn to treat him better.
We will see how all these backroom negotiations work out in the weeks ahead.
