There were extension rumblings just a few days ago.
Evidently, something happened along the way and Irving wishes to play somewhere else after the deadline.
Irving, 30, will be a free agent after the season so unless there is an extension involved, the team acquiring him will have to treat him as kind of a rental.
His on-court performance remains as good as ever, but off-court incidents may have had an impact on extension talks with the Nets.
He has been especially hot in the last 10 games:

Knowing the player’s baggage and astronomical salary, it’s hard to gauge his trade value.
The upcoming days will be filled with rumors and rumblings, as just about every contender should have at least a minimum amount of interest.
With Kevin Durant still on the shelf with a knee issue, the Nets now find themselves in a tough spot.
It’s fair to say that when the news broke, Twitter went crazy.
Fanbases, of course, started to speculate on their respective teams making a move for Irving.

On the other hand, some fans want to be nowhere near Irving because they consider him a cancer.
What a disgrace! After his act of Antisemitism, @KyrieIrving is creating more trouble and complaining as usual . No team should pick him up. https://t.co/qwak582Myd
