In the aftermath of losing to the eventual Western Conference champion Denver Nuggets in six games in the second round of the NBA playoffs, the Phoenix Suns have made some significant moves to address the immediate future.
The first move made by the front office was parting ways with head coach Monty Williams, which was shocking, to say the least, as he was a year removed from winning NBA Coach of the Year.
It didn’t take long for them to find his successor, with the team bringing in one-time NBA champion Frank Vogel.
With Vogel in the fold, the team made another bold move on Wednesday, as the team told veteran point guard Chris Paul that he’ll be waived, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.

After the Nuggets eliminated the Suns, the next order of business, outside of the surprising move to replace Williams, was addressing the roster with Paul and Deandre Ayton thought to be two players that could be traded.
It seems the team knew that trading Paul would be difficult due to his contract and the fact he’s lost a step, so they elected to go this route instead.
Even though the team will waive Paul, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he returns to the team on a much smaller deal, which gives the team some cap space to work with during the NBA offseason.
As for Ayton, it remains to be seen what the team does, even though Vogel seems to want to keep him moving forward.
