Another head coaching hire has been made in the NBA, with the Phoenix Suns finally deciding who will replace Monty Williams as the leader on the sideline for the franchise moving forward.
After a year away from the game following his being fired by the Los Angeles Lakers, Frank Vogel got the nod over Doc Rivers and Kevin Young to be Williams’ successor in Phoenix, which is a solid move for a team needing a coach with championship experience.
Although it seemed like Vogel was out of the running for the most desirable coaching jobs left in the league, the Suns made the surprising decision public on Friday, and now his contract details have been released as well, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

This new contract for Vogel puts him in the top-tier category for annual salary amongst his coaching peers in the league, as he is in the top 10 highest-paid head coaches along with the likes of Williams, Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr, Erik Spoelstra and Rick Carlisle.
Obviously, Vogel is in select company, with those coaches mentioned being arguably the best of the best in the NBA today, with the majority of them having won multiple titles as head coaches.
The real question now is whether Vogel can get this team led by superstars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker back on track and ready to be a perennial title contender in the Western Conference.
The Suns will have some work to do this summer as they try to figure out what to do with Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton while adding more talent around Durant and Booker.
