After the first two weeks of the 2023 NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys are making a solid case for being the best team in the NFL, with a defense that could go down as one of the best in NFL history.
Micah Parsons and company have made quite the impression over the team’s first two games with some dominant performances against the New York Giants and New York Jets.
Unfortunately, the team suffered a significant blow to their defense this week, with All-Pro corner Trevon Diggs going down in practice with a non-contact injury to his knee, which turned out to be a torn ACL, resulting in him having to miss the rest of the season.
In the aftermath of Diggs being ruled out for the season due to this knee injury, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the media and talked about the severe blow the team has taken via Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on losing CB Trevon Diggs for season: "It's definitely a punch in the gut for our football team, but this is an opportunity for our defensive depth to step up and continue to move forward." Added he is "very confident" in DaRon Bland at outside corner.

Losing arguably the team’s second-best defensive player will take a toll on this group moving forward, as there’s no telling what the impact will be without Diggs on the field.
However, McCarthy seems confident in DaRon Bland to fill in for the All-Pro as Dallas prepares to go on the road to take on the lowly Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
The real test for the Cowboys will be when America’s Team takes on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, which could be a battle between the two best teams in the league and a potential playoff preview, as one of these two teams could be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.
