The Minnesota Vikings arrived in Week 17 as one of the most overlooked teams in NFL history.
Despite their record, few people considered them a Super Bowl contender.
That’s why Mike Golic Jr. wanted to apologize for not believing in them.
Following the win over the Green Bay Packers, Golic raved about Sam Darnold and how he and Kevin O’Connell have dominated this season (via GoJo and Golic).

He argued that it was finally time to give Darnold his flowers, praising the Vikings for bringing the best out of a player who had talent coming out of USC but had struggled mightily to be at his best since he first entered the league.
Not many people had the Vikings with a chance to win the NFC North and get the No. 1 seed this season, especially not with Sam Darnold at the helm.
They signed him to a one-year deal, most likely to serve as a backup, and he’s now about to get a big payday in the offseason.
Darnold is still young, and he’s yet another example of how much an organization can hurt a player.
It’s a shame to wonder how many great talents were ruined by not being in the right environment.
Hopefully, he’ll keep this going and finally live up to the potential he had when he first entered the league, as the game is always more fun to watch when the best are at their best.
